Sea Teak is a plant species in the Podocarpaceae family, native to southern Asia and Oceania.
This tree grows in the coastal areas of Southeast Asia and, especially in Papua, Indonesia. Sea Teak is one of the few conifers that can grow in mangroves, on coasts, or between coral and rocks. In Indonesia, this tree is known as Kayu Keramat.
Characteristics of Sea Teak Leaf
The leaves are 6-13 cm long and 3-10 cm wide in young trees, and ovisation in older trees.
Characteristics of Sea Teak Fruit
The male tree has slightly yellowish cones and produces whitish pollen. Meanwhile, the female tree has a very varied fruit.
Characteristics of Sea Teak Tree
Sea Teak can grow as a medium-sized tree with a height of 17-20 meters, the bark is reddish-brown in color.
The wood of this species is often exploited and the trees are widely planted as ornamental gardens.
The Sea Teak tree can also be used as a bonsai subject as do most species of the Podocarpus genus, including the Buddhist Pine (Podocarpus macrophyllus) and Breede River Yellowwood (Podocarpus elongatus).
