Characteristics of Long-leaf Fig Tree (Ficus binnendijkii) in the Wild

Long-leaf Fig or Narrow Leafed Fig (Ficus binnendijkii) is a member species of the genus Ficus. It is thought to have come from Southeast Asia, but many sources say, this tree also grows naturally in South America.

This tree has leaf long, narrow leaves like a weeping tree. Long-leaf figs look attractive as standalone specimens or as part of a mixed / landscape display. It is also suitable for planting in shallow pots as a bonsai tree.

The larger Long-leaf Fig tree is perfect as an ornamental tree in gardens or home yards, office yards, even in shopping centers. They are also very easy to care for and don’t require a lot of water.

 

Characteristics of Long-leaf Fig

The leaves are slightly stiff, long (about 20-25 cm) and narrow, hanging glossy dark green, and tapered leaf tips. Leaf width depends on the variety, for example: ‘Alii’ or ‘Amstel King’.

The fruit is typical of Ficus, like small berries that appear along the branches, green when young and turn yellow, orange to red when ripe.

These trees like direct sunlight all day long, but they can also be placed in a bright room. can grow in full sun or exposure to semi-shade. Long-leaf figs cannot withstand temperatures below 10 ºC and waterlogged soils.
